Medicare Supplemental Insurance is sometimes referred to as Gap Insurance.
Medicare Supplemental Insurance can be sold in only ten standard plans - Plan A through Plan J.
Some types of plans may not be available in every state.
Every issuing insurance company must make available Plan "A", and some insurance companies offer a number of plans to choose from.
Plan A has basic benefits.
Plan B has basic benefits; plus, Part A deductible. For Plan B when medical care is provided in a participating hospital, the initial Part A deductible is waived. If medical care is not provided in a participating hospital, you are responsible for payment of the initial Part A deductible.
Plan C has basic benefits, skilled nursing co-insurance, Part A deductible, Part B deductible and foreign travel emergency. For Plan C when medical care is provided in a participating hospital, the initial Part A deductible is waived. If medical care is not provided in a participating hospital, you are responsible for payment of the initial Part A deductible.
Plan D has basic benefits, skilled nursing co-insurance, foreign travel emergency, and at home recovery. For Plan D when medical care is provided in a participating hospital, the initial Part A deductible is waived. If medical care is not provided in a participating hospital, you are responsible for payment of the initial Part A deductible.
Plan E has basic benefits, skilled nursing co-insurance, Part A deductible, foreign travel emergency and preventive care.
Plan F has basic benefits, skilled nursing co-insurance, Part A deductible, Part B deductible, Part B excess (100%), foreign travel emergency. Plan F** has all of the same benefits that Plan F has with a high deductible that needs to be met before the benefits start. Plans F also have an option called a high deductible Plan F.
These high deductible Medicare Supplemental Insurance plans pay the same or offer the same benefits as Plans F after one has paid a calendar year deductible. Benefits from high deductible Plans F will not begin until out-of-pocket expenses are met. Out of pocket expenses for this deductible are expenses that would ordinarily be paid by the policy. These expenses include the Medicare's deductibles for Part A and Part B, but do not include the plan's separate foreign travel emergency deductible. For Plan F when medical care is provided in a participating hospital, the initial Part A deductible is waived. If medical care is not provided in a participating hospital, you are responsible for payment of the initial Part A deductible.
Plan G has basic benefits, skilled nursing co-insurance, Part A deductible, Part B excess (80%), foreign travel emergency, and home recovery.
Plan H has basic benefits, skilled nursing co-insurance, Part A deductible, foreign travel emergency, basic drugs with a dollar limit.
Plan I has basic benefits, skilled nursing co-insurance, Part A deductible, Part B excess (100%), foreign travel emergency, at home recovery, basic drugs with a dollar limit.
Plan J has basic benefits, skilled nursing co-insurance, Part A deductible, Part B deductible, Part B excess (100%), foreign travel emergency, at home recovery, extended drugs with a dollar limit, preventive care. Plan J** has all of the benefits of Plan J, with a high deductible. Plans J also has an option called a high deductible Plan J. These high deductible Medicare Supplemental Insurance plans pay the same or offer the same benefits as Plan J after one has paid a calendar year deductible.
